Ending with a win of 63 to 57, Varsity Girls Redhawks basketball team won over the Ridgeview Blazers during a conference game on Jan. 5. Top scorers included senior Unique Drake with 12 pts, junior Maliyah Lockett, sophomore Nyah Leveretter with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and finally, senior Mya Belton with 16 points. Belton also joined the Career 1,000 Points Club with this game.
“The fact that I’m a senior and this is my last chance to achieve all the goals I’ve set since freshman year helps me motivate myself every game,” Belton said. “It feels great to reach the 1000-point mark I’ve set this goal at the beginning of my freshmen year and it’s a blessing to be able to see how far i came since then.”
During the game, Belton suffered an injury but she pushed through and went right back into the game. “I think I played well on Friday night after suffering an injury in a the game. I didn’t let it hold me back and came back and shot a few three to help win the game for my team,” she said.
