With 5 seconds left to play, freshman Unique Drake made the game winning shot to secure Westwood’s 43-41 win over Wade Hampton in the first round of the playoffs.

The girls had a quick start over the Wade Hampton Generals, maintaining an 11 point lead for 3 quarters. In the 4th quarter, the Generals made a comeback and tied the game in the final minute, erasing the 11 point lead. The Redhawks were able to quickly respond and secure the victory in the final few seconds.

This is the first time the girls basketball team has made it to the playoffs. It is also the first playoff win by any female sports team and basketball team at Westwood.

The girls will travel to Rock Hill High School on Friday, February 19 for the second round. Tipoff is at 4pm.
